Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on what to look at next. Right front indicator lamp is not functioning. Flasher on instrument panel and right rear indicator flash twice as fast as normal, generally indicating a bad bulb as far as I know. Checked the bulb first, it's good and wiring from indicator lamp to headlight bucket is good as well. By the electrical diagram it looks like the wiring goes to the instrument panel next, but I assume there is another connector somewhere under the tank.

Thanks for any help.

If you have a voltmeter, pull the bulb and check if you're getting any power at the signal socket with the flasher on. Could just be a badly seated bulb or the bulb socket center contact is bent. If voltmeter shows no power while flashing, time to start tracing the wiring harness. Fun!

Thanks, I wish it was a simple fix. There is no power coming from the wiring harness for the right indicator that goes back under the tank. I assume the problem is somewhere between there and the instrument panel but will have to remove the tank to check. At least it's not an intermittent problem, worse yet to track down. If anyone knows or has any ideas what I should be looking for let me know.

Any recent work in the area of handlebars?
Maybe a pinched/damaged wire?

No recent work around the handlebars and I did check to see if any wires that I could see were damaged. The tank was off about 2000 miles ago for a valve adjustment check. Maybe the wires weren't routed/connected correctly when the dealer put the tank back on? I plan on taking the tank off this weekend to see if I can track this down.

Got it working. Problem wasn't at the splice but somewhere between headlight bucket and front 1/4 of the main wiring harness. There's not much room to maneuver things near the front of the bike so rather than pulling the whole front of the harness out I spliced into the wire where it was good and ran a new wire up to the connector in the headlight bucket. Not exactly how I wanted to fix it but had already spent too much time working on it.

Just a little bit of advice. You have got to think a bit further down the road that what you have just down. it's great that you have located where the problem is and have a "Short term remedy/ fix" However you really haven't solved the problem. you need to ( when time permits ) is go the extra distance and find the exact problem and repair it properly with a joiner or soldering the joint and shrink wrapping the joint or replacing the damaged wire with the correct colored wire.

Coz I can tell you there is nothing worse than in years to come, (it may not be you but another owner)or even you forgetting what happened way back then and finding an "Errant / Rogue" wire running from somewhere to somewhere and not knowing what is is for.

Yes, like I said it was not exactly how I wanted to fix it but it will work for now and probably is fine as is. Everything is in shrink tubing and tagged but I'm sure it will bug me enough that I will come back to it sometime in the near future. Most likely a winter project when the snow is flying and it's time to replace the coolant/spark plugs/fuel filter etc. again.
